Acoustic Transponder Working Principle
An Acoustic Transponder is a core component of underwater acoustic positioning systems, widely used in LBL (Long Baseline) and USBL positioning systems for precise subsea tracking and navigation.
The system operates based on a reliable interrogation-response mechanism:
- A vessel-mounted or subsea system transmits an acoustic interrogation signal.
- The underwater acoustic transponder receives and identifies the signal using a high-sensitivity hydrophone.
- Upon recognition, it automatically emits a coded reply signal at a predefined frequency.
- By measuring the signal travel time, the system accurately determines distance, enabling real-time underwater positioning and tracking.
In addition to standard transponder mode, the device can function as a subsea beacon, periodically transmitting signals for continuous detection in ROV operations, AUV navigation, and offshore survey applications.
The UAL-AT2030-L1500 Acoustic Transponder is engineered for long-range acoustic ranging, fast response, and stable performance in harsh marine environments, making it an ideal solution for offshore engineering, hydrographic survey, and subsea positioning systems.
LBL Positioning System
LBL Acoustic Positioning System with Seafloor Transponders
LBL positioning systems establish a stable subsea reference network using seabed transponders, enabling highly accurate and reliable underwater positioning for survey, construction, and navigation.
LBL positioning systems offer three key advantages:
- High-precision positioning
- Depth-independent performance
- Stable seabed-referenced network for reliable subsea operations
